I'm still here

I don't have much to share at the moment, as I am currently attempting to save money to fund a new collection, therefore am working hard in a shoe shop (trying to resist buying shoes). I have also just returned from Orlando and yes I did meet Mickey( and Minnie, Goofy, The Grinch and Cat in the Hat), now it's back to normality, how boring!
I would also like to try sell my graduate collection as well as the gold boots used for styling, however I understand the bright colours are not for everyone. If you like something or know of someone you think might be interested get in touch. Each piece can be sold separately!
Anyway, I thought I best check in since it really had been such a long time, but I'll stop rambling, night all! Xx

It's been a while!

I know it has been ages since I posted anything on here, things have been getting in my way recently. I started a new job, so have been working full time and am now trying to find a way of balancing both jobs! A few months ago I took part in a photoshoot with Edinburgh based photographer Anette Schive, at Portobello Beach, unfortunately as the images were submitted to magazines I haven't been able to share them. Good news came yesterday, when I received a message to say they had made the October issue of Editorial Photo Magazine, which means I can now share the amazing images!

Life at the moment

Last time I posted I had a shoot coming up with photographer Anette Schive,it went really well and I'm pleased with the outcome, however the photographs have to be secret for now. At the moment I am fairly busy, what with trying to make that transition from student designer to actual designer, it's all becoming quite stressful and exciting. I am enjoying making dresses for people on a made to order basis at the moment, and it's going quite well! Starting to put some ideas together for a new collection, however I have some saving to do before then. Also have a few fashion shows to come soon that I am excited about! Check out www.facebook.com/splashinginpuddles236 for my business page and designs! I'll leave you with some of the recent dresses I have been working on.

I haven't disappeared

I know that it has been a few weeks since my last post, but I figured if I have nothing to say or show then there isn't much point boring you :)

In the next few weeks I will have exciting new things to post! I am currently working on two dresses for friends, which I am very excited about and am also doing a photoshoot in Edinburgh next week after being approached by a photographer. I have a few other things in the pipeline, so slowly but surely I am getting work in this crazy fashion line of work! Hope have pictures to post soon, but for now I'm away, before you get bored of me ;)

First sale!

Exciting news! I was asked by a friend to design and make a dress for her to wear to a wedding, with the only request being colour and that it be backless. Of course I was very excited as this is the first time I have been given this opportunity. So I threw myself straight into the design and a few weeks on I handed over
the dress (which fitted) for actual payment! I feel like a designer, ha ha. More of this to come hopefully! Pictures of Anna's dress to come after Saturday! X

Been and Gone!

So Thursday 7th June finally arrived, the day for the Heriot Watt graduate fashion show, where my collection would be taking to the catwalk! Alarm went off at 6:15, far too early. It was a long day, with lots of waiting around in the Dovecot Studios Edinburgh, a twelve hour shift pretty much! Arriving at 9 o'clock, we got to see our beautiful models and quickly developed a complex. We had the first show at 4pm, for some local schools, during which there was a mix up of music and names during mine and another girls collections, however we were assured it wouldn't happen in the evening show, which was the important one. The evening show seemed to run without any hitches and everyone seemed to be impressed! Mark Eley of Eley Kishimoto coordinated the show and done a great job. I can't believe that it has been and that I am really finished with uni. Better find myself a job in the real work now!

Little bit boring!

I realise at the moment I have been pretty absent, I promise there will be more to come from me, it's just a bit weird getting used to this no uni thing. I am currently trying to work out what direction to direct my life in, it's all very confusing! Lack of money is playing a huge factor in prohibiting me from doing what I want, always a problem! Really need to get things in perspective. Next month should be pretty exciting, giving me lots to post about, but for now I'll leave you with a picture from some fashion show preparations!

The Wait is Over

I realise that it has been weeks since my last post, there has been so much going on. Unfortunately, unlike the rest of my class I am not finished uni until this Friday (4th May), due to some family reasons so I am still pretty busy. However I had to make time to write a special post in my blog, as I received the final edit of my Graduate Fashion Film ''Tea at Woodstock'' yesterday, after a lot of work and many, many changes. I'll be back to writing more frequently very soon but for now you can watch my film and pass it on to others.

What's going on?

So after the mayhem of last weeks selection walkthrough, I obviously hoped that I would be selected, however as things usually go for me I had already decided that I didn't have a chance! Much to my surprise yesterday morning at 10am(much earlier than expected) I received an email confirming my success, that I will be showcasing my collection on Thursday 7th June at the Dovecot, Edinburgh. I honestly couldn't believe it and actually got my mum to re-read the email. Unfortunately there are not enough places for everyone, and out of 40 roughly half were selected, including some of my close friends. I am very happy for those who will be joining me on this evening showcasing their own collections, but wish that it didn't have to come to this for others. In other news this week, I am working on designing collections for my portfolio, including the diffusion of my graduate collection and a project based on designing a collection for Topshop New Gen. Shall keep you up to date with what's happening! :)

What a hectic week!

This week was the final week of classes for me, although I am quite far from being finished. The unexpected beautiful weather this week made it hard to concentrate, so I was off to a shaky start. I did however have 2 important dates this week: Thursday was the final walk through for my collection, this was being used as the selection for the School show at the Dovecot in Edinburgh, being held on June 7th ( fingers crossed that I get in), should find out early next week and I feel sick at the thought of receiving that email.

A small reminder of what my collection looks like... I know it's quite bright.

This week (today in fact) was the deadline for the playful promises competition, I enjoyed my first attempt at designing underwear and would like to do more of this in the future.

This is the design that I chose to enter.

Playful promises

After a weekend at home I have arrived back in Gala town! This week I have so much to achieve, especially when it comes to the Playful Promises competition that I'm entering, as the closing date is next Friday. Having never designed underwear before, this is a nice new challenge, however the theme is a bit strange. The collection will be called "Paradise" but I am asked to explore the idea of 2030 meets 1950, (future retro). It doesn't stop there, the brief asks me to explore the emergence of the east, as well as a poem "Paradise Lost". I automatically thought of Paradise as Heaven, which also led me to the Garden of Eden. I am working at combining eastern influences with what I associate with Paradise.

Success!

Spoke to my tutor today, who seems happy with how my photoshoot went...success! Couldn't really afford another room at citizen m as much as I'd love to spend more time there!

On the subject of amazing rooms I have found some of my most ideal rooms, unfortunately they are in Paris and probably far out of my price range.

Just a couple of thoughts for today!

The photoshoot!

I organised to shoot my collection and fashion film at the amazing Citizen M hotel in Glasgow. The white minimalist design and light features were perfect for what I wanted to achieve. My amazing photographer, camera man and boyfriend Stephen was there to put his wonderful skills to good use, as well as my beautiful model Nichola, plus make up and hair team Emma and Shannon from Coatbridge College.
A sneak peek of Sunday's work

Although it was a long warm day with 5 of us crammed into a room for at most 2 people, everyone kept their spirits high and we achieved some great results. Of course the only way to end the night was to enjoy some cocktails in the hotel bar.

Tea at Woodstock

After many long days and nights, I finally got the opportunity to see my collection altogether in the walkthrough last Friday. I have to say I was quite excited to see it all, but also quite afraid of how bright it was. I did however manage to achieve what I set out to do, as though my final lineup on illustrator did truly come to life.

I am most excited about the styling aspect of my collection, these customised gold boots with pink laces, mustard knee high socks and chiffon hair bow.

Next walkthrough 29th March, this is the selection for the fashion show at The Dovecot in Edinburgh, only enough places for around half our class...
